Description
Map of Virginia and Florida in volume 11, the New World, of Joan Blaeu's Atlas Maior (Grand Atlas), Amsterdam, 1662, after page 41. Complete original title of the atlas was Theatrum Orbus Terrarum, sive, Atlas Novus (Theatre of the World, or, New Atlas), with the latter phrase changed to Atlas Maior (Grand Atlas) in 1662. Started by Willem Janszoon Blaeu (1571-1638) and completed by his son Joan Blaeu (1596-1673). By 1662 the atlas had expanded to 11 or 12 volumes, depending on the edition, and included maps from previous editions.
