Abstract
This thesis offers an evaluation of the finite span correction functions derived by Prof. Eric Reissner as additions to the function C(k) in the equations for the unsteady lift and moment per unit span acting on an airfoil. The evaluation is carried out by using the finite span correction functions in a series of flutter analyses, and comparing the results of these analyses with experimental results, and results of analyses that do not employ such correction functions. The experimental results were obtained from flutter model wind tunnel tests conducted by Mr. G. Luessen of the Boeing Co. Prof. Reissner 1 s equations for the unsteady moments about the hinge lines of control surfaces and tabs are not considered in this thesis , nor are the contributions to the unsteady lift and moment acting upon an entire airfoil due to the motion of a control surface or tab.
