The history or the west has received a new impetus as a result of the works of Frederick Jackson Turner , Walter Prescott Webb , Stuart Henry, and other historians. Pioneer women might be said to hold a subordinate position in the development of the West and were a factor in its social life. The pioneer women of Kansas, as well as those in other regions , found pioneering in the early history of Kansas fraught with those problems faced by all pioneers and in addition those arising from political difficulties. Records which were left by the pioneer women form a source from which to gain an insight into their life.
