Purpose and Importance of the study. In order to ascertain the potentialities of art as an area for education a survey was made of opinions by prominent authorities in the field of art education. An attempt was then made to propose certain plans and procedures for teaching art in the fifth grade. These plans were used by the writer in her fifth grade classroom, and possible outcomes were evaluated in the light of the objectives of the thesis.
