Abstract
Arthur Miller, one of the most prominent American
playwrights of the mid-twentieth century, could be discussed
from many different viewpoints. He is interesting for his
use of commonplace language, for his repetitive themes, for
his concentration on common people, for his attempts to
achieve modern tragedy, and for his combination of realism
and expressionism. This study will concentrate on an aspect
of his methods of characterization: his use of contrasting
types of dramatic characterization.
