Abstract
The purpose of solving the problem in this thesis is not only to provide an evaluation of the accuracy of the “elastic axis” approach, but also to review the methods to improve the accuracy of higher mode solutions. It is not the intention of the author to imply that this is the best or only approach in this instance; there are, of course, many others.
The area of the problem is restricted to that portion directly involved in the vibration analysis in order that the paper would not become too voluminous and the methods clouded by insignificant details of structural analysis.
