Abstract
In this thesis the author intended to serve two purposes. a. To demonstrate "The Direct Stiffness Method" by applying it to a stiffened panel. b. To compare and to analyze the results obtained by using two different plate stiffness matrices, i.e. the plate stiffness matrix developed by M. J. Turner using the assumption that stresses vary linearly in the plate, and the one developed by J. H. Argyris under the assumption that the displacements vary linearly along the edges of the plate. Furthermore, to be able to take into account the possible effects of support conditions, two different types of support conditions are considered. The results obtained by using the two plate stiffness matrices are tabulated, compared, and discussed in the following pages.
