Description
A document containing an explanation that John Y. Mason became a Confederate Commissioner during the American Civil War and was taken off the British ship ''Trent'' by Captain Wilkes of the United States Navy. This became known as the ''Trent Affair'' and almost caused a war between the U. S. and Great Britain.
