Annual Well Women exams are a common encounter in the healthcare field. It is an opportune time to educate, counsel, and discuss concerns with the female patient, but these exams are usually not started soon enough in adolescent females. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends an initial visit for screening and providing reproductive health care services to females beginning at age 13-15. Currently, guidelines are lacking for a comprehensive well woman visit for adolescent females. The purpose of this clinical review article is to guide primary care providers by providing the information and tools needed to conduct reproductive health visits in adolescent females according to a compilation of current guidelines/recommendations from organizations including ACOG, USPSTF, CDC, AAFP, and AAP. Our article covers STI screening and health maintenance, contraception, normal reproductive physiology, high risk behaviors, healthy vs. abusive relationships, online safety, human trafficking, gender identity, sexual orientation, and confidentiality and reporting.
