Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Eighty-six percent of American schools are struggling to hire a full and qualified staff (Schermele, 2023). Despite the urgency now, literature shows this has been an issue for years (Portner, J. 1998). Studies since COVID-19 have focused on the gaps (Carpenter II, D.M., Field, J., Tucker, E. & Ferguson, N. 2023) and money districts are wasting (Farnesworth, I. 2018, November 30). because of teacher rollover or dissatisfaction. All of these gaps and issues are lumped together within a much broader term: Teacher Wellness. All of these studies document a new trend schools try but without any real results. The gap in these studies is how the researchers are practicing. Surveys with limited options or interviews with stakeholders are not going to yield the information needed to attack this problem. PURPOSE:This study will focus on interviewing 24 teachers currently teaching at USD 458's six schools. It will seek to ask open-ended questions to determine what wellness is to the district and how it can be improved. METHODS:This study will utilize qualitative research. It will use five-opened ended questions. The results will be recorded, coded, and analyzed for common themes. RESULTS: The results will generate common themes seen throughout all buildings and categories. With these results I will construct a word wall to centralize how teacher wellness can be improved in the district. CONCLUSION: All data will be collected February 19, 2024. From this, a district wellness program will be proposed and implemented.
