Photograph(s): Big plans for a big day are made by formation designer, John Friesen, Jean Seacat, and Band Director James Kerr. p. 1 -- Eleanor Roosevelt. p. 1 -- Salute to Sousa was the theme of last year's band day in which 58 high school bands participated. This year the biggest band day in the history of the tradition will include 3,800 members of the Kansas bands. p. 3 -- Kauffman museum was the scene of much of the research activity for the University Players on the field trip to Newton. There they gained background for authenticity in 'Papa is All.' 1) two actors observe an Early American baby bottle at the museum. 2) Discussion gave the Players details on the Mennonite people. 3) A phonetic recording is taken of Mr. Kauffman's speech to aid in further study. 4) An early model car reminds two in the cast of the car mentioned in 'Papa is All.' 5) The University Players arrive at the museum in Newton. University Players making the Newton trip were Claud Singer, Dallas Noel, Beverly Garriott, Shirley Knight, Warren Wofford, Jean Floyd, June Lee, Sharon Ebberly, Terry Gladfelter, Mike Russell, Norman Lofland, Miss Joan Goering, and Prof. George D. Wilner. Mr. Charles Kauffman and Dr. J. Winfield Fretz aided the group in their research project. p. 4
