Memorial Service

Over 12,000 attended the memorial service held in WSU's Cessna Stadium on Monday, October 5, 1970, to honor those in tragic accident that took place three days earlier in which an airplane carrying members of the Wichita State University football team, University administration, friends of the University and flight crew crashed in the Rocky Mountains near Silver Plume, Colorado, while en route to Logan, Utah, for a game with Utah State University. Twenty-nine died at the scene, while two others died later after receiving medical attention for their injuries. Eight players survived.
