Abstract

This presentation will address WSU Libraries' implementation of external programming to enhance workflow in its institutional Repository, SOAR (Shocker Open Access Repository). It will discuss several cases including the batch import of archeology image collection, Graduate Research and Scholarly Papers, and some herbarium samples. It will describe the add-on code to facilitate DSpace batch import procedure and cover the processes involved, such as metadata preparation in Excel, program installation, program customization, metadata transformation, and data batch upload to the DSpace server. Each generated Submission Information Package includes a Dublin Core XML record, corresponding images and files, and a content list file. Batch processing can streamline and enhance the workflow and it is an important step in the development of SOAR. It can be applied to many other projects in the future.
