Abstract

An extraction of the 1798 census of 101 of the 106 German colonies established along the Volga River. A translation from the original manuscripts (created by the Saratov Province Financial Ministry), now in the St. Petersburg Russian Archives. The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia translated and published them 1995-1996. Includes census of the population, economy, and agriculture. A gazetteer is included of the colonies as they existed at the time. Movement tables are also included, showing movement within the colonies.
