Abstract
Haze revolves around the idea of a steadily unravelling mind. What starts as a focused an organized mindset can slowly degrade over time while sense and chaos fight for control. The chromatic figures that are heard throughout the piece in many different keys, harmonies, tone colors are meant to represent the slowly encroaching "fog" of the mind. The primary melodic line first displayed by the cello outlines the stalwart but fleeting mental clarity that becomes increasing difficult to maintain overtime. This idea is one that has interested me for many years as the mind can often usurp agency from us as individuals, even when we are not cognitively aware of it. Rational though to one can be seen as incoherent ramblings to another as both parties attempt to come to some kind of mutual understanding. In the end, it is unclear which is the victor as the collateral damage done to one's psyche is irreparable and peace is only found through death or heavy sedation.
