Abstract
The desire to produce an atlas concerning the
morphology of the turtle stems from the acute lack of information
regarding Chelouia (Testudinata) which the author
encountered while studying vertebrate morphology as part of
the graduate work at the University of Wichita.
some books were found which discussed the anatomy of
the turtle in a manner sufficient for a superficial examination
by a one semester comparative anatomy class. Although
drawings were to be round, the majority of them lacked the
detail that is necessary for a complete analysis of this
reptilian form.
It is the authors hope that that this atlas, the
inquiring student may find material, in both text and illustration,
which will add to his understanding of comparative
morphology.
