Abstract
In 2016-2017, as president of the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE), the author introduced the theme "Teacher Educators: Inspiring the Future, Honoring the Past" to focus on the positive contributions of educators and address critical issues such as the national teacher shortage. This initiative sought to highlight the essential role of teachers, encourage more individuals to pursue teaching careers, and advocate for effective public education support, particularly for marginalized students. However, the issues from that period have worsened, with the teacher shortage deepening and the COVID-19 pandemic exposing and amplifying systemic inequities in education. The shift to online learning during the pandemic revealed significant disparities in access to technology and educational resources, disproportionately affecting students of color. In response, the ATE established the Commission for Online Teaching and Learning to support teachers in creating effective online educational environments. This editorial emphasizes the continued importance of supporting teachers and addressing educational inequities to ensure quality education for all students.
