Description
This undated, typewritten manuscript gives Walter Graves' perspective on the early history of Fairmount College, the predecessor of the University of Wichita and Wichita State University. His insights provide much information on the development of the university and about the controversy plaguing its relationship with the Congregational Church and Washburn University in Topeka. Graves was a physician in Wichita who served on the Board of Trustees of Fairmount College for many years. This look back was written after the main building on campus, Fairmount Hall, was destroyed by fire in early September 1929, but prior to the retirement of longtime Fairmount College and University of Wichita professor Flora Clough in June 1931.
