Description
Spectators and airport attendants examine pilot James Goodwin Hall's Lockheed Altair monoplane after he stopped at the Wichita Municipal Airport for refueling on July 10, 1931. Less than eight hours earlier he left Burbank, California, in pursuit of a transcontinental flight record. He discontinued his effort in Wichita. Image and accompanying article published in Wichita Beacon newspaper, July 10, 1931, pages 1 and 5. Caption written on glass negative misidentifies Hall. Photographer unknown.
