He has been granted a leave of absence. p. 1 -- Receives appointment: Dr. Albert E. Croft, head of the sociology department at the University, was appointed yesterday morning as director of training of personnel for the War Labor Board in Washington, D.C. He has been granted a leave of absence from the University. p. 1 -- Tireless boys push rumbuggy: Pushing their '22 model gasless buggy, these boys illustrate what will happen when Mr. Average Student uses up his 3.7 gallons of gas each week. Caught away from the familiar parking lot, Jim McBride, Bob Burnett, Bill Ellis, and "Smiley" Overby try to get it to the frat house to stay until the next allotment is given. p. 2 -- Dance chairman: Putnam Haddox is chairman of the Webster fraternity barn dance which is to be given Friday night, November 13, in the Henrion Gym. The Varsity Crew will play for the dance from 9 to 12. Assisting the chairman is George Taylor and James Wilson. p. 3 -- Dick Gavitt. p. 4 -- New varsity chairman: Jerry Preston, Phi Upsilon Sigma, was named varsity chairman this week to replace Jack Greene, who is now in the Army. p. 5 -- Yazel wins wings: Charles Yazel, Jr., former University student, won his Navy "Wings of Gold" and was commissioned an ensign in the Naval Reserve. p. 5 -- 200 pounds of tackle: One of the mainstays of Ralph Graham's forward line, Paul Stout, 200-pound Shocker tackle, will be on the starting line up against the Southwestern Moundbuilders in Shocker Stadium Saturday. p. 6 -- 220 pound fullback: Heaviest man on Southwestern's team and heaviest man on the field of Shocker Stadium Saturday will be Vic Bland, pile-driving Builder fullback. p. 6 -- Parnassus picture candidates: Parnassus picture prince and princess candidates were announced this week by sororities, fraternities, and the Independent Students' Association. The deadline for the Parnassus picture contest is December 1.
