Abstract

Aerodynamic noise generation due to the presence of surface discontinuity has been a topic of research for more than five decades. Most investigations carried out are on cavities ranging from small gaps to large cavities for both deep- and open-cavity configurations. Aerodynamic noise reduction has become part of the engineering design in transportation industries. From a practical point of view, the noise-generation mechanism that results from the presence of these small gaps is not completely understood.
