Abstract
Human trafficking is often referred to as a form of "modern-day slavery" (Hoyle, Bosworth, and Dempsey 2011). Although this conceptualization of domestic human sex trafficking captures the involuntary nature of human trafficking, it fails to describe the coercive psychological processes used by traffickers to recruit and control human sex trafficking victims. In order to understand how this is possible in a world of Internet, cell phones, and 911, it is important to understand the psychological dynamics of human trafficking.
