Typed transloation of article by Mario de Moraes in Brazilian magazine O Cruzeiro. Author criticizes Gordon Parks' depiction of the da Silva family of Rio de Janeiro in well-known photo essay "Freedom's Fearful Foe: Poverty" in Life magazine issue of 6-16-1961. Manuscript notes in margin likely written by Gordon Parks. Parks' portrayal of the family and their living conditions angered many Brazilians. Their outrage prompted the Brazilian magazine O Cruzeiro to assign Henry Ballot to document poverty and living conditions in New York City, the headquarters of Life magazine. Ballot's photo essay appeared in the 10-1961 issue.
