Abstract
While many inner-city public schools across the country continue to struggle with academic failure, insufficient resources, and declining enrollment, some typically located in gentrifying neighborhoods are experiencing the reverse. In these areas, middle-class newcomers with young children are seeking high-quality and diverse schools in the hopes of averting (or at least delaying) the school-motivated suburban escape that they witness repeatedly among their erstwhile urbanite peers.
