Abstract

The Department of Anthropology at Wichita State University excavated an assemblage of ceramic sherds from Boxed Springs Site (41UR30). Relatively little is known about this specific collection other than initial location and its association with Caddoan ceramic traditions. This study will conduct a basic typology of the current assemblage, accounting for elements such as, vessel type, thickness, temper, and spatial and temporal association. Findings will be compared to Tim Perttula's 2010 analysis of ceramic sherds from the western portion of the site. Our expectation is that we will find ceramic sherds from local traditions from the Early Caddo Period. This is a part of ongoing archaeological research at Boxed Springs.
