Abstract

The purpose of investigating the problem presented in this thesis is to provide a method for predicting the reaction time of a human pilot when presented the problem of controlling an aircraft subjected to disturbances in pitch; and to develop an approximate transfer function describing the pilot's reactions. Due to the great many variables involved as well as the virtual impossibility of complete ground simulation of airplane flight characteristics certain simplifying assumptions must be made. The results presented in this thesis, are then, probably most useful in obtaining pre-flight test information of pilot-airplane response characteristics.
