Abstract

Having previously written extensively on the creation of early twentieth-century Russian identity, Vera Tolz has tackled an important issue in her recent research: the development of regional identity in late Imperial Russia and early Soviet Caucasus and Central Asia. In this volume, she pulls together and expands on her analysis. During her research, Tolz discovered a treasure trove of very high scholarship on the subject. In Russia's Own Orient, she introduces these works to the modern world, to our great advantage.
