Abstract

The object of this thesis was to determine the validity of using two-dimensional unsteady air forces in a theoretical solution of flutter velocities for a highly coupled airplane. Highly coupled denotes strong modal coupling between the components of the airplane. In general, the theoretical results were in good agreement with aeroelastic-model wind-tunnel results and airplane flight flutter test results. There were, however, a few deviations between theoretical and flight test results. was concluded that the theoretical flutter analysis was a good means of indicating airplane damping trends. It was suggested that refinements to the air forces or changes in the type of air forces used should be made to more closely dynamically simulate the airplane.
