Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to explore the opinions of the major
critics of Milton's Satan, as they relate to each other. This exploration
is conducted under four headings: (1) The Judaeo-Christian View: (2) The
Romantic or Humanist View; (3) The Neither-the-One-nor-the-Other View;
(4) Satan as Archetype.
