Abstract

Scientific exploration of the universe has brought a closer intimacy with all living things. It is thus that natural growth of organic matter has become a subject of interest to the Artist. In works of art, areas of nature are divided and expressed according to the Artist's experience and his desire to portray it. The areas of expression supplied in this report are interpreted in various themes of plant and organic matter. These themes have been experienced by the Artist at various periods of life and in many areas of the country. The portrayal of plant and organic matter displayed in paintings and prints were motivated by my experiences as a student pilot. Lines, colors, forms, and textures as seen from the air make the earth a massive composition for study. The influence of this aerial view produced ideas for paintings and prints. I strived to get even closer to plants by developing a personal interest and relationship to plant forms. The plants became alive and “kindred souls" known to me. The organic forms used to display the joyfulness of childhood games or the beauty of a fresh day, alive and free, and to show the fear and anger of hate and oppression. From within these forms, this relationship was seen and felt by me.
