Abstract

The proliferation of Ad-Hoc network based applications have greatly increased the need for robust proactive routing protocol like Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR). OLSR uses Multipoint Relays (MPRs) for controlled flooding. The MPR selection process is defined as NP-complete set cover problem type. It currently uses reachability and degree of the node as an approximation for selecting a MPR. In Mobile Ad-Hoc network link stability plays an important role. In this paper, authors introduce a new approach to select a MPR in OLSR. This approach introduces the concept of considering statistical based link stability metrics for selecting a MPR, thus enhancing the route reliability and decreasing the packet loss. At the end, authors compare the performance of link stability based OLSR (LS-OLSR) in terms of throughput, delay, and overhead using Random Waypoint Mobility model for mobility pattern.
