Gould. p. 2 -- Truly beautiful: A black fashion show is one of the many activities planned for Black Heritage Week. Here is a sneak preview of the coming attraction. p. 3 -- The year was 1928 and Fairmount College/University of Wichita was 33 years old. A year later, in 1929, Fairmount Hall (lower left) the original Fairmount College building, burned to the ground. In the early 1960s the original Morrison Library (upper left) was also ravaged by fire. p. 6 -- By the late 1940s and early 1950s the University of Wichita had grown to nearly 3,500 students with the campus also expanding. However, Henry Levitt Arena, Duerkson Fine Arts Center, Campus Activities Center, Grace Memorial Chapel and Cessna stadium were more dreams. p. 6 -- Construction men always have been a familiar sight on campus. In 1968 they were hard at work on the $2 million expansion of the Campus Activities Center. p. 6 -- As the University has changed, so has downtown Wichita. The early 1900s scene of West Douglas Street (from Market) shows the bustle of Wichita in another era. pp. 6-7 -- The columns of the Fairmount Street entrance of WSU are still there but where you have all these young men and women gone. This late 1930s photo shows things really haven't changed that much - students still jaywalk. pp. 6-7 -- Two of the University's traditions - Mickey Mouse on the face of Morrison clock tower and the old "spooning" tree - tell of bygone days. p. 7 -- An original woodcut produced this likeness of Fairmount Hall. A friend of Dr. Paul Magelli, dean of Fairmount College, made the woodcut and one hundred prints in commemoration of WSU's 75th Anniversary. p. 7 -- Lunacy: Dr. Clark Ahlberg, WSU president, left, and Dr. Paul Tasch, geology professor, look at lunar samples. p. 7 -- Good vibes: Robert Jaeger, left, and Otto Maynard will show their vibration study of a Lear Jet wing Friday and Saturday for Engineering open house. p. 8 -- Verlyn Anderson. p. 9
