Abstract
This paper describes the development of an empirical expression that relates the AC flashover voltage of post-type insulators to the rate of rainfall, the conductivity of the rainwater, and the angle of the rainfall with respect to the insulator position. A unique and novel method is used to develop the empirical relationship. The resulting empirical expression shows good agreement with experimental AC flashover voltage values obtained from laboratory tests. © 1997 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd.
