Abstract
On the basis of Lee's conception of the neighborhood as a sociospatial schema, 119 residents of a British new town were asked to map their neighborhoods and areas of belonging and to locate significant others geographically. These data and usual sociodemographic variables were used to predict eight indexes of community satisfaction. Results show that many respondents considered their neighborhoods and areas of belonging to be different, that socioecological variables were significant predictors of some dimensions of community satisfaction, and that social interactions played a significant (though somewhat different from expected) role in predicting satisfaction.
