Abstract
This is an invited contribution to the 2nd edition of the Encyclopedia of Mathematical Physics. We review the geometric cobordism hypothesis of Grady and Pavlov, b. We survey the construction of the smooth symmetric monoidal (∞,d)-category of bordisms, the locality property for fully-extended nontopological field theories, and we sketch the proof of the geometric cobordism hypothesis. The example of 1-dimensional Riemannian field theories is also discussed. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd. All rights are reserved.
