Newspaper article in Wichita Eagle, Thursday, June 3, 1926, reporting college of liberal arts at new municipal university will be known as "Fairmount College of Liberal Arts," preserving the Fairmount College name. On June 2, 1926, Fairmount College was formally transferred to the City of Wichita to create a city-run university. In a special election held April 24, 1926, Wichita’s citizens voted in favor of accepting Fairmount College as a gift and transforming it into the Municipal University of Wichita.
