Abstract

Kansas History as a record, including chronicles of the counties, has been very briefly treated. Elk County has received very little consideration in the affairs of the state, and, yet it has several outstanding facts peculiar to the county, not found in other county history. It does not conform to the usual measuring stick as a set up for a county history. Elk County is the only county in Kansas established by an act of the state legislature. The “Boston War” trouble over the county seat and the state attention given the affair has never been reenacted in any other county’s history. The county histories should be written while there are yet alive those people who know from experience the happenings in the organizations. There is a very limited supply of printed matter and almost all source material must come from personal interviews, and deferring or neglecting this opportunity will cause that state’s history to have many missing links.
