Description
Letter to Mr. Stephen Dutilh and T. T. Marsaria (?), Philadelphia, March 17, 1801. Dutilh, one of the ship's owners, anglicized his first name from Etienne to Stephen around 1800. Watson was told by the British that he had been en route from one enemy port, St. Thomas, to another port, unnamed in the letter. He was therefore liable to capture, a claim to which he objected and was seeking legal remedy when he was detained in Tortola. Watson documented the British use of privateers to aid them in the seizure of his ship, delays from storms, and losses resulting from damaged ships and ruined cargoes.
