    Abstract
In this thesis it is my purpose to present five units or study which would be or interest to a junior high school general music class. It is primarily intended as a teacher's guide in presenting several areas or subject matter with a list of source materials in each field. The presentation here is not intended to be a complete course of study. Each unit will take its place among the various activities of the general music class according to its particular emphasis; for example, folk songs might employ both the singing and listening activities while the music or contemporary America would probably be classified under the area usually termed "music appreciation."
