Thesis (M.M.)-- Wichita State University, College of Fine Arts, Dept. of Music
Adapted from the iconic tale from the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales, The Juniper Tree, this chamber opera tells the classic story of the wicked stepmother who murders her innocent stepchild, and finally receives her comeuppance through the actions of the community and the family that she harmed. Staying true to the morbid and macabre tone of the original story, this adaptation for the stage utilizes a particular Americana setting, as each of the movements reflect a unique style of music that originated in the United States.
