    Abstract
One year into the COVID-19 pandemic, we reflect on how Koike’s ideas about pragmatics, co-construction, and frames will contribute to emerging and future research about digitally mediated communication in a time during which the ways in which people engage with technology are rapidly changing. This chapter addresses challenges and opportunities associated with the new ways of interacting through technology. It is suggested that understanding communication as a process of co-construction between individuals with unique histories along with a posthumanist awareness of the interconnectedness between humans and objects will allow for a more nuanced perspective on the processes of intersubjectivity that occur in virtual environments.
