Construction will begin within the next three years. It will cost an estimated $1,230,000, [illegible] of furnishings and architects fees. It will house an experimental elementary school, to be known as the University of Wichita Elementary School. p. 4. -- [Dick] Young. p. 5 -- Shockers: Here is the 1958 Shocker football squad which closes its home schedule tomorrow afternoon in the annual Homecoming game with the George Washington Colonials at 2 p.m. on Veterans Field. It has been a come-from-behind season for the Shocks as they lost four games before hitting the winning column and have won three straight. The Shockers lost early season games to Bowling Green, Oklahoma State, Houston and Hardin-Simmons before dropping Villanova for their first victory of the year. Then the Shocks beat league-leading North Texas State and whipped Drake. The Shocks have come a long way from their 1-9 season of a year ago. Not only do they have a chance of a winning year, they are also in contention for the conference title. In their only victory last year, the Shocks defeated Drake, 14-7 in the Homecoming game. p. 6 -- Prize possession: Men of Webster members Jack Blue, left, and Chuck Baldwin display their biggest trophy, the famous Keg, in front of their fraternity house. It will be awarded to the winner of the annual Webster-Gamma football game. / photo by Richard Vye. p. 7 -- Coaches: Coach Chalmer "Woody" Woodard, standing, has four men augmenting his coaching staff this year. They are, left to right, Bill Austin, Bernie Taylor, David Hawk, and Ray Morrison. Austin is in his first year with the WU coaching staff. He played professional football with the New York Giants where he was selected all-pro in 1955. Bernie Taylor, in his second year with the Shockers, works with the backfield. David Hawk a graduate of SMU played, under Coach Woodard while there. Ray Morrison takes care of the freshmen in football as well as varsity baseball in the spring. p. 8 -- Beat George Washington: University cheerleaders who will lead the yells at the Homecoming game are, front row, left to right: Head Cheerleader Mary Joan Hiner, Elaine Woodman, Nancy Castor, and Mary Cloutier.
