Photograph(s): Two of the pipes which help refrigerate the ice rink for the Ice Capades [sic] are pointed out by the manager of the show. These pipes are a portion of the five miles of pipe running under the 60-foot by 105-foot rink which is on the Fieldhouse floor. The ice, which is two inches thick, took 12 hours to form. The floor of the Fieldhouse was covered with masonite boards topped with a solid sheet of plastic and roofing paper. Over the roofing paper are two inches of sawdust with the pipes running through it and another plastic sheet to hold the water for the rink. The water is frozen by a hundred-ton refrigeration unit which pumps ammonium brine through the pipes beneath the floor. The first presentation of the show was Tuesday night and it will continue through Sunday night. p. 1 -- Head football coach Chalmer "Woody" Woodard gives two spring players advice as drills got underway Tuesday in Veterans Field. Left to right are Quarterbacks Dick Johnson, Dick Young and Coach Woodard. Johnson and Young are both lettermen from last year's squad. p. 3 -- [Richard] Ruth; [Barbara] Krotz. p. 4.
