The frisbees sold for $3 each with the proceeds going to the Milton Besser Scholarship fund. Upper right: Steve Smith, a competitor from Missouri, kicking an incoming frisbee up into the air while practicing for the freestyle event. After kicking the frisbee to a higher level, Smith can balance the disk on his fingertip as it spins, catch it behind his back or perform any one of the number of tricks that make freestyle the favorite event of most frisbee addicts. Competitors often practice for seven hours at events which may take less than five minutes to complete during competition.
