Abstract
Two experiments were carried out within the framework of Cattell's motivation theory. Results demonstrated that dynamic trait factors, each of which encompasses a wide spectrum of specific attitudes, are functionally unitary entities, since manipulation of only one component attitude (e.g., fear of war) results in changes on related attitudes (e.g., fear of illness, fear of parental rejection). The experiments further clarified the theoretical nature of drive stimulation and drive frustration within the context of this motivational theory.
