Li, J. & Mau, W.-C. (2018). Application of an ecological approach to examine online activities and Internet addiction among college students. Journal of Counselor Practice, 9(2), 1-22.
This study investigated the relationships among Internet addiction, gender difference, loneliness, and depression from an ecological point of view. Data were collected from 132 college students (77 males, 53 females) at a research-intensive university in the mid-western United States. Regression analysis indicated that gender, use of smart phone, time spent online, and depression have a significant impact on Internet addiction among college students. Recommendations were provided on how researchers can strengthen this growing field of research.
