The prophets’ devastating speeches and the trauma of the Exile to Babylon may have had the most profound impact, and in the New Testament, Babylon has become a symbol of an evil empire and is also applied to ancient Rome. The biblical texts also contain more positive memories of Babylon, which were often repressed or forgotten.
