    Abstract
    This thesis invenstigates trends in study and usage of Latin from the Early Middle Ages to 1931. Separate chapters describe these trends in national context of France, 1550-1931; Germany 1400-1931; England 670-1931; and the United States 1630-1924 and 1924-1931.
