What's in a name?: labels and identity in grandparent-headed families
Bertapelle, Jessica; Tiernan, Jennifer M.; Stoldt, Ryan G. 2016. What's in a name?: labels and identity in grandparent-headed families. Gerontologist, vol. 56:suppl. 3:pp 168-169
Abstract
This study investigates how “grandfamilies,” families in which grandparents assume caregiving responsibility for a grandchild, negotiate and apply familial labels for identity formation. About 2.7 million grandparents in the U.S. are the primary caregiver for a grandchild (Generations United, 2014).
