Abstract
The object of this study is to show the character of
the Marques de Bradomin as portrayed in the Sonatas of Ramon
del Valle-Inclan, and, since the Marques fancies himself a
Don Juan, to compare his traits with those of the Don Juan
Tenorios of Tirso de Molina and Jose Zerilla.
The Don Juan traits of each of the characters will be
discussed according to three concepts: first, his lack of
respect for religion and the church; second, his disregard
for the rights of others; and third, his conquest of women.
Other factors that will be discussed are: appearance, boastfulness,
veracity, pride, affluence, nobility, courage, aggressiveness,
nationality and sentimentality. Once each
character has been treated in terms of the above-mentioned
traits, a comparison of the three personalities will be made,
Our conclusions will then be based on the following
three considerations: first, the ambiance to which each Don
Juan belongs; second, the characteristics which are common
to all three personages; and third, the ways in which the
three men differ.
